Code Geass Gaiden: Boukoku no Akito *spoiler alert!*

July 11th, 2012 in Anime, Code Geass Gaiden, General Reviews by

Spoilers for Code Geass and R2 throughout.

I’m going to be predictable and blog about my ever high hopes for the upcoming installment for Code Geass ;). There is much talk about Lelouch still being alive, and it gets confusing. I’m pretty sure the director himself has declared Lelouch is indeed dead, but don’t quote me on that. However, the fact that Lelouch is stabbed by his best friend, would pretty much be enough proof that Lelouch is dead. Then again, every fan of the show knows the very last scene leaves us with room for speculation. It also makes people like me crazy because I like all the ends to be tied up into a nice little package.

My opinion? I’m so glad you asked! Lelouch is dead.

I’m not exactly a gold mine of information when it comes to supporting this theory. C.C. is shown to be looking up at the sky and talking. Yes, she is happy so that leads some viewers to believe that is proof Lelouch has survived, but some time has passed since his death when that scene is shown. So because it acts like a sort of epilogue, we can say C.C. has moved on. As an immortal she is used to being alone. Some people believe that Lelouch is the man riding the carriage in the last scene and there are videos that show the man having a similar facial structure to Lelouch as well as Lelouch’s black hair. At first I thought they were hoax videos but according to this one, that was the original Japanese ending and not just a hoax.
After some research I’m starting to understand the people who assume Lelouch is alive. The code and the Geass elements to the series leave me admittedly confused at times. I’m watching season 1 for the third time and there are still parts that I am only just catching this time around. With all the different theories out there I still like to stick to my original belief. I like that Lelouch is dead because I think it gives the ending a much more profound impact and him still being alive is like a cop-out. Also, I’m a sadistic nut when it comes to stories. I’ve always liked dark, sad story lines better.

Another guess? The writers watched V for Vendetta one too many times.

I’ve heard more than one person say that this is a sequel to R2 and that they hope to see Lelouch in it. This is not the case. The new Code Geass installment is to air August 4th. It’s a 4 episode long OVA. According to the summary I read on myanimelist, a Knightmare unit from Area 11 is thrown into a military operation with only a 5% chance of survival. From that one sentence alone we can already presume that this show will have a lot of character deaths like Code Geass did. And if you’ve been following this article at all you’d know, being the sadistic nut that I am, that I think this show sounds promising.

My high hopes for this new show not only stems from my liking of the summary, but also from the return of CLAMP. In the original series CLAMP did the character design and the group is back for this one. I really love their artwork and I think the characters once again look lovely.

There really isn’t much else to say because unfortunately we don’t know much more beyond that. Although I really hope this series can give me some fresh, awesome stuff from the Code Geass franchise. If you’ve heard that the manga is bad, you’re right. The original manga adaptation left out so much from the anime’s story line and does not use Knightmares. Also the artwork is pretty weak. There are a ton of different manga series for Code Geass but I’ve only read the first five volumes of the adaptation. The other series have also been known to receive less than generous feedback. So hopefully Code Geass Gaiden: Boukoku no Akito will give us diehard fans something new and exciting.

lelouch is not dead in the original UNCUT japanese not the unedited one when c2 is talking bout the price of geass the guy driving the hay truck IS lelouch not shown directly but its obviously his hair and oh too familiar smirk heres a link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNhyzoq4mxo&feature=related

to clarify im talking bout the ending of the last episode of R2 when c2 is looking up at the sky after lelouch supposedly “dies” all i can gather has code the immortality c2 has and he got it when he used his geass to obliterate his mother and father when his father choked him transferring it to lelouch like when he took v2’s code so lelouch is immortal with c2 hence why she says she was wrong about geass condeming you to a life of solitude since she now has lelouch for all eternity

To be completely honest I agree with you. When I was watching it I swore that  the guy in the hay truck was definitely lelouch but so many people have been saying no he is dead I really have no idea what to think… Id really like to believe he is alive and kicking though and his fake death was all part of his genius plan

well like i said in the uncut version lelouch is alive and well and immortal i did research from the sounds of it they edited that part out to make the ending more suspenseful and leave more to the imagination of the viewer but i personally believe in the uncut version i believe he is alive XD

I go back and forth all the time. For a while (and at the time this article was written) I swore up and down that he was dead. Then my friend went into a super long, confusing explanation about how he’s alive…and it was a pretty solid argument on her part. Although I’ve heard good arguments for him being dead as well and apparently the writers themselves said for sure he’s dead.
Not related…but does anyone know when the subs for the new series comes out?

          • Lelouch Vi Britannia says:

Not really. It has been a long time since I read the post of the authors. If I remember correctly, the translation was something like: “None of us had any doubts that Lelouch’s story has come to an end”. This does not imply that he is dead, but that his story will not be continued. In short, we can speculate if he’s alive or dead, but we ain’t getting any more of him regardless.

Oh, and: “Lelouch Vi Britannia commands you! Believe that I am alive!”

cut or uncut does’nt matter Lelouch is alive no matter what anyone say. Why? because
Fistly – The most obvious reason would be CC calling to Lelouch in the closing
scene of the episode. As we can assume CC to be still sane, she must be
talking to someone, and that someone would most probably be the driver
of the cart. She said “Geass is the power of kings, it will isolate you… well, I guess that’s a little wrong… eh, Lelouch”
Secondly – Lelouch is alive because he got his dad’s code. He beckoned the World of
C to lend him its powers, and he took Charles’s code before Charles
passed on. The reason why Lelouch still has his Geass is because he
didn’t take the Code from the same person who gave him his Geass: he
took his Geass from CC, and he took his Code from Charles. Thus, he now
possesses both immortality and a Geass.
SERIOUSLY DUDE INVESTIGATE BEFORE DOING A REVIEW O STARTING A BLOB. no offense.
