Short Pull Series XXX: Safe at “Home”
February 10th, 2022 in Anime, General Reviews, Short Run Series by The Droid

It’s a drinking show. There is nothing more cuter than seeing a lady drink…..unless it’s a bunch of ladies drink! This one isn’t much different than “Osake wa Fūfu ni Natte kara”, except it’s times four. “Takunomi” (“Drinking at Home”) tells the story of 20-year-old Michiru Amatsuki (lower right). She arrives in Tokyo, where she will start a new job and enjoy a big-city lifestyle. (more…)

Short Pull Series XXIX: “Love” Life
February 3rd, 2022 in Anime, Short Run Series by The Droid

It’s a drinking show. There is nothing more cuter than seeing a cute lady drink. “Osake wa Fūfu ni Natte kara” (“Love is Like a Cocktail”) tells the tales of the married Mizusawas: Sora (him) and Chisato (her). (more…)

Instant “Noodles”
January 20th, 2022 in Anime, General Reviews by The Droid

What is it with food shows? It seems that practically every time I turn around, there is another food show. But you have to be careful. I mean, to me, it is more than just seeing people eat endless plates of food or trying to learn the cultural and geographic difference that makes the same dish not really the ‘same’ dish. This is kind of the mixed approach to “Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles (“Rāmen Daisuki Koizumi-san”). (more…)

Love Makes the “World” Go ‘Round
December 9th, 2021 in Anime, General Reviews by The Droid

Although I would really like to watch anime with people, I tend to ruin the experience by commenting on everything I see. Also, even if I keep my big yapper shut, I can’t get people to sign up and sign in, so a lot of shows end up on the back burner, until I get a reminder of it. Such is the case for the second season of “The World God Only Knows”. (“Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai”, abbreviated as “Kaminomi”). (more…)

“Arms” and the Man
November 25th, 2021 in Anime, General Reviews by The Droid

What is Japanese Culture enamored with? Certainly robots. Certainly figurines. Certainly flirty girls in flirty outfits. Well, what if you could combine all three into a trifecta of perfection? They have, with the release of “Frame Arms Girl” (“Frēmu Āmuzu Gāru”), a series based on a model kit line. Don’t laugh. “Mars Attacks!” was based on trading cards, so it’s not all that weird…..ish. That’s “Mister” To You!
November 11th, 2021 in Anime, General Reviews by The Droid

I honestly did not expect a second season of “Mr. Osomatsu” (“Osomatsu-san”) and, to some degree, they might not have, either. But they decided to take it in a pointedly slapstick direction, so they are more unhinged, more worthless and more destructive than ever before. (more…)

“Pop” Culture
October 28th, 2021 in Anime, General Reviews by The Droid

This is one seriously deranged offering. This is a very binary show: either you like it a lot or you hate it a lot. You also need to understand how it works BEFORE you go in (Wait! How can I understand what I am seeing before I see it? That’s what I’m here for!) Greeting from “Pop Team Epic” (“Poputepipikku”). (more…)

Boot “Camp”
August 19th, 2021 in Anime, General Reviews by The Droid

I am not certain what starts a trend, but there is some trigger. Usually, one company does a particularly themed show, it really takes off and then everyone else rushes to produce a show in that area or sub-genre. I had this with a ton of biking shows a couple of years ago and now, I am seeing it with outdoor shows. I ran into a short pull series about girls who hike up mountains and now, I am given “Yuru Camp”(“Laid-Back Camp”). (more…)

There Is Nothin’ Like a “Dame”
August 5th, 2021 in Anime, General Reviews by The Droid

Hybrid shows are always a problem, in that they want to be all things to all people, but they are not always capable of fulfilling the promise. Such is what you get with ”Dame×Prince Anime Caravan” (also known as “Damepuri”). It wants to be both dramatic and comedic, but it just doesn’t know the best way to pull it off. (more…)
