Day #2 – “Breakdown Dead Ahead”

July 3rd, 2022 in Anime Expo 2022 by

Learning from the missteps from yesterday, today I was better set up, as I dragged out the umbrella AND we looked at the schedule. Not much was planned during the day, so I was going to take a major swing at the Exhibitor’s Hall. But first, I would have to WAKE UP!

I mean, I got up early to set up things, but the wife and daughter were still sawing wood, so I laid back down and joined then for another TWO hours. We got out late, but the first board I went to, which was Day Two of Crunchyroll premieres, started late, so I slid right in without missing a beat.

The first show was an eye-popper “I Love Deco” and, no, it’s not about Erte. It is this visually AI eye candy of a land, where people use love as a currency. But there is trouble with the Phanton Zero, an invisible cypher who takes people’s love points. The story is how Berry, a precocious girl, can see him and tries to capture him. This is like no other show I have seen in some time, and it looks marvelous. Watch for it.

The second show was the hefty titled “Smile of the Arsnotoria – The Animation”, so I assume it’s the anime of the manga. It starts out as a magical girl show, but there are dark and brooding elements as well, but you got so little information, I have to initially pass on it, unless you like seeing cute girls doing cute girl things, while other people are cleft in twain.

With that done, into the Hall, where I passed on the 18+ Content, as the line stretched about the hall. I don’t need hentai that badly. Now, I ended up spending $200 for things, and I know, for some, that is genuine chump change. I could drop that on a Limited Edition Pop Figurine of Demon Slayer, autographed by the voice actor. And people were lugging whole shops under their arms.

But it was still too many people all in the same place and it wears on you. and since the wife and daughter had huge-size swag, we went back to the hotel to drop it off and find a place to eat. But I missed a panel I wanted to attend. I did hot-foot it back to catch the hottest on-line game this week, Disney Twisted-Wonderland. I mean, people were losing it for the characters, as they are all hunky guys. I was just curious as to the whole thing, and I was able to stay in the Hall to catch the HIDIVE panel, where they were showing us their offerings for the year.

Now, they are having premieres as well of their shows at the Expo, so I hope to catch Season 4 kick-off of “Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” and “Made in Abyss”. The only problem I had with the panel is that the hosts were over the top in an annoying manner as they presented everything, but they meant well. It’s just I got cold and tired and headed back early, as I did not want to have an exhausted repeat of this morning (Yeah, I posted the Day 1 recap at 1 am THIS DAY).

I also went into the Entertainment Venue. I usually don’t go there, as that is where all the card players go, but there was a lot of other entertainment events. Round 1 was there, giving you a feel for what they have. There were eGames and regular video game consoles. The big line was for your one shot at the Claw Machine. I never saw a winner. It was just something I hadn’t see in times past and it was very busy.

Now, being Saturday, we did have the religionists out, but they seemed to lack the zeal and fervor of days past. I found it funny that one person was equating cosplay with idolatry (“Who is YOUR God”?) in the shadow of the Kobe Bryant statue at the center. Plus, there was a van driving about with speakers blaring about what Jesus did for us.

This was an odd juxtapositioning of things, as behind it was another van, visually extoling the virtues of this nubile young thing, showcasing her ample ‘talents’ and sending you to her website if you wanted more.

Another problem was a lot of breakdowns, as the escalators decided not to work, and they slowly fell apart as the day proceeded. The badge scanners were acting up. Valid/Not Valid. Then, at the bus turnabout, two buses were taken out of service for brake issues, MY buses, so it took forever to get back to the hotel. I was tired. These places are such a workout, even Godzilla conks out. On to Day 3!
